Community groups will rally at the statehouse in Columbus to call attention to cuts in local government funding and to Ohio’s unfair tax system. After the rally, Working America organizers and members will deliver thousands of petition signatures to Gov. John Kasich calling for a tax system that isn’t rigged for the 1 percent. Under current law, the wealthiest get $6,000 in tax giveaways annually.
“On top of the $6,000 annual giveaway, the rate paid by the wealthiest Ohioans is half the rate paid by ordinary working people,” said Working America State Director Dan O’Malley. “It is bad for families, communities and businesses. Everyone should pay their fair share.”
Working America, a community affiliate of the AFL-CIO, has gone door to door in working-class neighborhoods throughout Ohio and found overwhelming support for a fairer tax system and for an end to Draconian budget cuts.
