Managing Director
Tony Cheng, Managing Director of Working America, manages day-to-day operations and provides strategic advice and direction on program, finance and labor relations. He is also responsible for Working America’s member benefits program and leads its diverse business initiatives.
Tony’s previous roles at Working America were chief of staff, assistant director, director of member benefits, and senior development associate. Before joining Working America, Tony worked as a political consultant for The Competence Group, where he supported over 100 national, state and local campaigns for elected offices including those of Secretary Hillary Clinton, Gen. Wesley Clark (Ret.), California Gov. Gray Davis and Illinois Gov. Pat Quinn. Tony grew up in a multi-generational union household and attended union meetings as a teenager to assist monolingual Chinese speakers with translation.
Tony has a Bachelor of Arts in political science and economics from DePaul University. He lives in suburban Washington, D.C.
